Nalders Solicitors is saving the day for the West Cornwall Sunday Football League (WCSFL) by agreeing to continue their sponsorship at a point when the League faces financial difficulties.
As the League faces its 2010/11 season, the club coffers were dry due to the runaway success of the referee Initiative, supported by Nalders.
The Referee Initiative was created to improve players’ behaviour on the pitch. The scheme really took off when the League was able to incentivize good behaviour by waiving the £55 affiliation fees. In fact the scheme was so successful and players behaved so well last season that no affiliation fees have now been paid by clubs staying in the League, leaving the organisation in a financial fix for the coming season.
So, Nalders’ £1000 sponsorship comes at just the right time for the League. Bill Lamin, Secretary of the WCSFL, is delighted:
"With an average of only two yellow cards cautioning a club per season, we have had to waive our affiliation fees so Nalders financial support is excellent news and very timely. Our referees are enjoying the game so much more and our players and supporters are reporting ‘a different sport’, so having to stop the League would have been a disaster. Nalders support is exactly what we need."
This is the third year that Nalders have sponsored WCSFL. Wayne Bushell, Practice Manager at Nalders, explains why the local firm chose the League:
"The WCSFL have done an incredible job in cleaning up the game and the League’s Referee Initiative has been nominated for a national award. Our sponsorship is a way of rewarding the League for its passion and commitment to the beautiful game."
Founded in 1985, the WCSFL is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The League covers Truro and all points west and has 15 teams made up of players over 16 years old.
