New Corporate Sponsor for Local Charity

Nalders has selected Active 8 as its chosen charity for the coming year. The local solicitors firm will support the Cornish charity by paying for activities and accessible transport on its residential weekends throughout 2011.

Active 8 is a group of young people with physical disabilities who live in Cornwall and meet every month to take part in a weekend of activities. The group enjoy twelve residential weekends per year for two years. The activities range from outdoor pursuits such as surfing and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme to indoor skills such as cooking and music.

The defining purpose of these activity weekends is to create relationships to reduce the feeling of isolation felt by these young people, to teach skills to increase independence and to have fun doing pastimes that would be impossible without a dedicated approach to accessibility.

Nalders has supported its community through the Nalders Foundation by donating over £15,000 since 2008 to local causes such as The Precious Lives Appeal for Cornwall Hospice Care. The firm has made direct donations but funds have also been raised in a variety of ways by partners and staff alike.

A sponsored motorbike ride from Lands End to John O’Groats and back again was a particularly successful venture, and Nalders frequently holds events such as golf days and themed dinner dances to great effect. Over the past two years there have been two themed evenings in particular that were extremely successful in raising a combined amount of over £5000, the Titanic evening and James Bond night at the Maritime Museum in Falmouth. All of the funds raised throughout the next year will enable local youngsters to take part in their own challenges.

Liz Olive, Trustee of Active 8 is delighted that the charity will benefit:

"In these times it is extra difficult to raise funds for charities. With Nalders’ support we can now guarantee our young members residential activity weekends that are both fun and challenging. The difference this makes to the group is extraordinary. For many, it’s a chance to experience outdoor activities they thought they couldn’t take part in. These activities help the young people get to know one another and give them a new found confidence."

Wayne Bushell, Partnership Director for Nalders explains the firm’s decision:

"Nalders has a long tradition of supporting its local community. Active 8 enables young people with physical disabilities to achieve so much and to have fun at the same time. It’s imperative that these youngsters are not isolated and that they are given every opportunity to join in every possible activity. We are all very pleased to be raising funds for such a positive cause."

In addition to the funding for the activity weekends, Nalders is also offering the services of their IT Manager to attract more visitors to the charity’s website.
